Expense, Garden Parkway Issue

On the Issues

Garden Parkway

The Garden Parkway was an issue in 2008, it’s an issue now and it will continue to be an issue because the whole route selection process is tainted. Kathy’s perspective regarding this issue:

1. The road as now proposed is not the road conceived years ago. Its original purpose was to unclog the mess at 321 and I-85, allowing trucks to transit the area, making Gaston a more viable shipping and transportation hub while opening up the southern part of the county. The current proposed road only runs from 321 South to I-485. This plan benefits a few developers who want to build houses and retail space, giving their customers easy travel to Charlotte while the rest of Gaston suffers. Proponents will tell you the complete road is on the map but there is no funding for it and no guarantee it will ever be completed.

2. The route selected for the Garden Parkway has been hopelessly tainted by politicians acting to line their own pockets at everyone else’s expense, making the route selection process flawed. While Kathy is not against a road or even a toll road, she is against THIS road.

3. No matter where and how this road is built, someone needs to look out for those whose land is taken. The property owners need to be dealt with honestly and with full disclosure, which they have never had, and they need to receive fair and just compensation for their property.
